Cat Stevens, John Prine, Jack Tempchin among 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame Inductees

Courtesy of Songwriters Hall of FameThe 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees were revealed Saturday, and the artists chosen for the honor are Cat Stevens, hip-hop star Missy Elliott, country artist Tom T. Hall, folk great John Prine, prolific R&B hit maker Dallas Austin and veteran pop-rock songwriter Jack Tempchin.

The honorees will be saluted at the organization's 50th annual induction and awards dinner, scheduled to take place June 13 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

Chic's Nile Rodgers, president of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, says, "[W]e are recognizing some of the culturally most important songwriters of all time. The 2019 slate of inductees represents diversity and unity across genres and gender, highlighting our dedicated mission to honor music creators who have enriched our lives."

Cat Stevens has written such hits as "The First Cut Is the Deepest," "Peace Train," "Father and Son," "Moonshadow" and "Wild World."

Tempchin is best known for his work with The Eagles and the late Glenn Frey. He wrote or co-wrote the Eagles' hits "Peaceful Easy Feeling" and "Already Gone," and co-wrote Frey's solo hits "The One You Love," Smuggler's Blues and "You Belong to the City."

Prine, whose fans include Bob Dylan, Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt and Bruce Springsteen, wrote songs such as "Angel From Montgomery," "Paradise," "Hello In There," "Illegal Smile"and "I Just Want To Dance With You."

Dallas Austin has penned songs for Madonna, Pink, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, TLC, Brandy, and Boyz II Men.  Missy Elliott's hits include "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," "Work It" and "Get Ur Freak On;" she's also written songs for Whitney Houston, Ciara, Fantasia and Aaliyah.  Tom T. Hall's songs include "Harper Valley PTA," "I Love," "Little Bitty" and "(Old Dogs, Children and) Watermelon Wine."
