Todd Rundgren working on new project that may include collaborations with Neil Finn, Rivers Cuomo

Last month, Todd Rundgren released a memoir titled The Individualist: Digressions, Dreams & Dissertations, and the prolific musician tells ABC Radio he's now focusing on the follow-up to his 2017 collaborative studio album, White Knight.

Like White Knight -- which featured Rundgren teaming up with artists including Daryl Hall, Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, Joe Walsh, and Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor -- the new project will be made up of various collaborations.

Regarding the tracks he's completed, Todd reveals, "I got something with Neil Finn, originally from Crowded House -- he's playing with Fleetwood Mac now. Working on something with [Weezer frontman] Rivers Cuomo. Got a couple things I've done with The Roots. We're gonna try and get one of those out."

Rundgren points out that he isn't sure which, if any, of the finished songs he'll release.  Meanwhile, he reports that rather than put out a full album, at least initially, he likely will release individual tracks as he finishes them.

"[W]hen we have enough of 'em, we'll probably put together an album," Rundgren explains. "But we're trying to figure out a way to release them as they're made. So, trying to take the approach more of…these collaborations…being singles rather than songs for an album."

Todd says with a laugh, "I like albums and I like making albums, and they're a good way to sort of bracket what you do so that you can create a big stink around them, but people don't consume the music in that way as much anymore."

Todd will be hitting the road in April on a previously announced trek in support of The Individualist that's being billed as the first hybrid concert/book tour. He says during his downtime before the trek he'll be working on more collaborations.
