Rare Paul McCartney and Wings concert film, The Bruce McMouse Show, getting theatrical screenings this month

Abramorama/MPL/Capitol/UMeThe Bruce McMouse Show

a rarely seen 1970s Paul McCartney movie project combining a concert film and an animated feature, will be screened in select theaters across the globe on Monday, January 21.

The flick, which features footage from McCartney and Wings' 1972 European tour, tells the story of how the ex-Beatles star and his solo group meet a cartoon mouse named Bruce McMouse who wants to produce the band.

Bruce lives with his family beneath the stage where McCartney and Wings are performing, and the critter and his clan are excited to discover that the band is playing right above them.

The film, which has never been shown theatrically, was included on a DVD and Blu-ray packaged with the 2018 deluxe reissues of Paul McCartney and Wings' 1973 studio album Red Rose Speedway.

The live footage was recorded at four shows that took place in Germany and The Netherlands, and McCartney decided he wanted to put together a film utilizing the performances. Before the start of his '72 tour, Paul had come up with the idea for the mouse characters and did initial sketches of them. Animator Eric Wylam then created the final version of the McMouse family.

McCartney and his wife Linda, among others, recorded voiceovers for the animation in 1973, but production wasn't completed until 1977. By that time, Wings' lineup had changed, so the movie was shelved.

In 2018, The Bruce McMouse Show was fully restored with a brand-new audio mix, for the Red Rose Speedway reissue.

The film is currently scheduled to be shown in 11 U.S. cities: New York, Chicago, Bethesda, Honolulu, Nashville, and Seattle -- as well as Los Angeles, San Rafael, Sacramento, and San Diego.
