George Clooney to make Broadway debut in adaptation of his 'Good Night, and Good Luck'

(L-R) Clooney, Ray Wise, Heslov on 'Good Night, and Good Luck' - Warner Bros. Pictures

George Clooney and his longtime producing partner Grant Heslov are taking their Academy Award-nominated 2005 film Good Night, and Good Luck to Broadway.

The spring 2025 production, co-written by Clooney and Heslov, will be directed by Tony winner David Cromer and will mark Clooney's Broadway debut.

The play will have Clooney playing legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow, who was portrayed by David Strathairn in Clooney's film.

Cromer said in a statement, "Edward R. Murrow operated from a kind of moral clarity that feels vanishingly rare in today's media landscape. There was an immediacy in those early live television broadcasts that today can only be effectively captured on stage, in front of a live audience."

Clooney added, "I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to."

The play will be staged at a Shubert Organization theater yet to be announced.

Halle Berry's Mother's Day posts raising eyebrows for more than one reason

ABC/Matt Petit

When Halle Berry popped up on Instagram on Mother's Day, most of the attention became about her being nude on a balcony for the second time in two years.

The new photo showing the Oscar winner looking over her shoulder, her bare butt against a railing, was posted by musician Van Hunt, Berry's man since 2020. He said in the caption, "happy Mother's day from the bottom… of my heart. …oh s***, i wasn't s'posed to post that!"

Cheekily, Hunt added, "butt…u hav to admit thassa bada**… mutha right there!"

However, understandably lost in all that was Berry's own post, in which she specifically wished a Happy M-Day not to her own mother, Judith Hawkins, but her "beautiful mother-in-law, DJ," referring to Hunt's mother, Doris Edwards Drayton.

For the record, Berry and Hunt never confirmed they tied the knot.

"Happy Mother's Day to all the glorious mothers of the world and especially my beautiful mother-in-law, DJ!" Berry said. "You've come into our lives and brought the sunshine with you," Halle continued. "When you shower us with your pearls, we are instantly made better! We love you so very much."

Halle's followers immediately noticed "the not spoken shade," as one put it, as Halle's own mom wasn't depicted. Many weren't having it. "What about your mother??" asked one. "WHO IS THIS WOMAN?" another posted.

For her part, Drayton replied to Halle, "Happy Mother’s Day, daughter! The love and light that you bring to my life shines bright. You are a wonderful mother, friend and inspiration. My son loves you and so do I."

ABC Audio has confirmed that Oscar-nominated actor Ed Harris will direct The Ploughmen, a neo-crime thriller starring Nick Nolte, Bill Murray and Owen Teague

Harris' real-life wife and Gone Baby Gone co-star Amy Madigan also stars in the adaptation of Kim Zupan’s acclaimed novel of the same name that is getting underway in Montana this fall. The movie also stars the famous couple's only daughter, Lily Harris

According to BCDF Pictures, the movie is in the vein of the acclaimed films Hell or High Water and Wind River. "In the wilderness of Montana ... a strange friendship develops between a haunted young deputy sheriff and a notorious old murderer," the producers tease.

Nolte's John Gload "is a killer so adept at his job that only now has he been apprehended." Teague plays Val Millimaki, described as the "low man in the Copper County Sheriff department."

The producers continue, "As Val continues his unlucky streak of finding dead bodies, Sheriff (Murray) puts him on night duty to try and get Gload to reveal his past. Val finds much in common with his prisoner, and dangerously seeks counsel from him."

The Ploughmen will be the third film that the Apollo 13 star directs, after his Western Appaloosa and Oscar-nominated Pollock. "Been trying to get this film made for a while," Harris says of the project. "It's worth the wait to tell this intriguing story with a great cast and crew and the beauty of Montana."

Jerry Seinfeld commencement speech interrupted by Palestine protesters

Noam Galai/GC Images

As a comedian with decades of experience, Jerry Seinfeld can handle some hecklers — and perhaps that's why he wasn't fazed by protesters who walked out before a commencement speech he gave on Sunday, May 12.

As he was being introduced ahead of receiving an honorary degree from Duke University, the Unfrosted star and director witnessed dozens of students getting up and walking out, chanting "Free Palestine," according to footage of the event.

Jerry, who is Jewish and has been publicly supportive of Israel after the deadly Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, was buoyed when others in attendance countered by applauding loudly and chanting "Jerry! Jerry!" during the disturbance.

After Jerry was given his ceremonial hood in honor of his contribution to the arts, he reportedly didn't address the wrinkle as he took the mic, saying, "Thank you. Oh my God, what a beautiful day."

The speech otherwise went off without a hitch, and in it, Jerry made an oblique reference to political correctness by saying, "I totally admire the ambitions of your generation to create a more just and inclusive society. I think it is also wonderful that you care so much about not hurting other people's feelings in the million and one ways we all do that every second of every day."

He added, "It's lovely to want to fix those things, but — all caps, but — what I need to tell you as a comedian: do not lose your sense of humor. You can have no idea at this point in your life how much you're going to need it to get through."

"Humor is the most powerful, most survival-essential quality you'll ever have or need to navigate though the human experience," he added, drawing applause.

'Tires': Netflix rolls out trailer to Shane Gillis' comedy series

Netflix

Netflix has rolled out the trailer to Tires, the comedy series featuring stand-up and actor Shane Gillis.

The comedian famously hosted Saturday Night Live this season after being fired from the show before he even appeared on in it in 2019 over some offensive jokes.

Here he plays Shane, the screw-up employee of his cousin Will's failing auto repair chain. Steven Gerben plays the heir to the Valley Forge Automotive Center, who in the trailer is constantly exasperated with Shane's antics, which include day drinking on the job, hanging up on customers, and befouling the customer restroom.

However, for all his goofing off, by the trailer's end, Shane does his best to rescue the company -- which, on-brand, includes a bikini car wash fundraiser.

Co-created by Gerben and Gillis, the show that also stars Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox, and Stavros Halkias, premieres May 23 on Netflix.

CBS/Sonja Flemming

Two NCIS favorites are getting their own spinoff. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, who respectively played Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David on the series, took to social media to announce "Tiva," as the fans dubbed the couple, will be back in Paramount+'s NCIS: Tony & Ziva.

"It makes it really easy because the fans will know exactly what the show is. It's about Tony and Ziva in Europe," de Pablo joked.

Weatherly, who bowed out of NCIS in season 13, added that the show will shoot in Europe over the summer.

According to the streaming service, the show finds the couple raising their daughter Tali in Paris, but the NCIS veterans are forced to go on the run when Tony's company is attacked.

"I expect intrigue, romance, a background of Europe, impossible situations that will make our life very complicated but somehow a little something about love," said the actress. Her character left the show in season 11, and was once rumored to have been killed in a bombing -- but popped back up in season 16.
